Why professional destruction?
Formatting a hard drive or factory-resetting a phone does not remove data — it just makes it harder to find. With the right tools (freely available online), an attacker can recover virtually all information from a "formatted" storage device. Pressing delete is not enough.
Old computers, servers, and mobile phones often contain extremely sensitive information: customer data, passwords, trade secrets, email correspondence, and financial records. When equipment leaves your control — whether sold, donated, or discarded — you must be able to guarantee that the information is irrevocably gone.
